Perhaps this should be the main photo for the Morovo Lagoon and the
village of Cheke. That is, this photo of a man and his pregnant wife
selling his beautiful carvings so they will have the money for the
doctor to attend to her "at risk" pregnancy. We were so touched by
this couple and their future child that after clearing out many of
our linens for the baby, they told us that they would name the baby
after one of us.
You
have to admit that each one of these carvings is more beautiful than
the next. Scott has no discipline at all, so we had to have many of
these lovely creations.

These folks (right) invited us to their home and showed us around
the area. Lulu (the husband) showed us the birds and some of the exotic trees in
the surrounding forest.

We were supposed to be quiet as we walked through
the jungle, but Scott & I were anything but quiet.

As you see, Lulu had bare feet and we just clumped
along behind!
These
are some of the wild orchids in the area.
He
also had some carvings and artifacts of interest to visitors.
This
little village is on a nearby island. As we approached the children
came out to greet us.
These
are just more views of the island village.
Just
more views.
People
seemed pretty industrious here and the village was quite neat.
This
man carved a gorgeous table for us.
This
is his wife and son on the right.
We
were invited to visit the man that lived on top of the hill with his
family. They said they preferred to be a little bit away from all the
noise of the children at the shore. They're also safe from the tsunamis
here - though we were told that the outer reef usually protected them inside the
lagoon.
