We were anchored in Gaspard Bay in the Maskelyne Islands of Vanuatu when
this boat came up. These folks have so little it pulls at your heart.
Later on some ladies came to visit us.
Sometimes we just can't receive their gifts, but are able to give them
one of our Bibles. We can only eat so much food and sometimes gifts of
flowers bring too many bugs onto the boat.
Scott
caught this Dorado just as we were entering the pass at Luganville,
Vanuatu.
On
the right are the men and chief of Peskarus. We spoke with them
were assigned a guide who would show us to where we would see some
turtles. It's on this island that I
was bitten by a dog! AND a month later a couple of Peace Corp workers
were also bitten by a dog. I'd say in retrospect that this is not a good
place to visit! The people didn't seem to be very concerned and the
owner of four dogs that came at me did nothing to call them off!
We
immediately moved the boat to another village and went ashore for Church
the next day. The folks in that village told us, "Oh yes, that village
is dangerous. We don't visit them because of the dogs!"
So,
this is the village we visited after the dog bite!
The
islands are dotted with villages and we had some very nice visitors.

You notice that the style of canoe is the same throughout the islands of
Vanuatu. That is, they build an outrigger on the starboard side. |
