Burma/Myanmar is a Buddhist a country. It's been explained to me that
Buddhism is NOT a religion, but what I saw was people praying, peole
devoting their lives to Buddhism as a monk or nun, and many, many forms
of "religious" observances. Anyway, that doesn't bother me. I just try
make observations and they draw their own conclusions. This Buddha came
from
Rangoon/Yangon.

The temples and stupas in the
Bagan area were phenomenal! They
dotted the countryside like trees. Hope you like this shot. It gives you
an idea of just how many structures there are, and of course, it would
be impossible for the people to maintain ALL of these, so people
maintain the ones that appeal to them for some reason.

To tell you the truth I can't tell you where exactly this weaving
factory was located. But, it could have been in Mandalay. In any case,
Mandalay
was a beautiful city with tons of history. Its far enough away from the
political powers that I get the sense that people can live their lives
in relative peace. Both the owner of our travel agency and our
guide lived in Mandalay, and in looking around the city we could figure
out why.

This is typically how the people of
Inle Lake propel their boat: by
sitting or standing (balancing) on the stern and rowing with hands, arms
or legs and feet. Hope you like this shot!

I have so many beautiful photos of the
countryside,
that I really don't know where to start in choosing one that tells the
story of Burma, but perhaps this one does! |
