We never had more people on our boat as we did in
Penjuku. We came here after Lelu Resort and Viro Harbor because we
wanted someplace that was easy to get into. We had to go over a shallow
spot of about nine feet (which was enough to make me crazy!), but after
that all was well.

These faces are incredible. What a crazy time we had!

We
finally had to tell people to leave as we couldn't control such a large
group of people on our boat surrounded by our precious and necessary
possessions.

You have to admit that these children are enchanting!
These cute girls with their flowers.
A
group of ladies from the village came out and sang for us. I especially
loved it as it reminded me of my good friends from my choir.
They
brought some beautiful flowers with them as a further gift.
This
little girls came with them.
We
went to another family village across the bay named, Tenggorara.
This
man showed us around the island and his grandmother sang for us. She was
doing some crocheting.
She
sleeps under this mosquito net which is provided by the Gates Foundation
for the irradiation of malaria.
A couple of little kids eyeing dinner!

We
visited a bat cave, but I didn't go in as I don't like caves and close
spaces. Scott got these photos.

We were told that in times past the villagers would come
into this cave and hide from the cannibals and slavers who would come to
the peaceful villages to take them away.
We
had to walk through the jungle and along the water to get to the bat
cave.
This
is the pass that we took on Quest to get to the anchorage. If it doesn't
look terribly deep, it isn't!!
We
had a very peaceful night at anchor in Penjuku - no cannibals or
slavers. |
