Yangon is the main trading city of Myanmar. It is located on the Yangon
River. The third century Sule Pagoda is a landmark in the center of the
city. The city is a mix of faded colonial architecture from the British
times and modern high-rises. This overview photo was taken from the
Sakura Tower.
This
is another view from the tower where we had lunch. Our tour was very
well arranged to make the best use of our short 10 day trip.
You
can see that it was raining the day we were there, but we still had a
great time.
 We
visited the Sule Pagoda in the center city.
 Thought
you would enjoy these images. People are barefooted because this is a
sign of respect inside the temple area.
 These
are more shots around the Sule Pagoda.
 These
tiles (right) tell some of the stories of Buddhism.
 These
are shots from around the city. I was impressed at how well dressed most
people were.
 More
scenes from around Yangon. We were told that there are 500,000 Buddhist
monks in Burma. It's about equal in number to their army. |
